Bunkerpop is a portrait of a recluse in a landscape of her own invention. The location for Bunkerpop is a brutalist structure built in WW 1 and used in WW 2 on the coastline of hull. It functions as the subconscious. A place and holder of memories, appearing and disappearing. The video explores the brutality of memory, oscillating between feelings of disconnection and illusory feelings of connection, between painful nostalgia and moments of hope. It conveys a “bunker” state of mind…interior visions, a brute landscape. There is no settling in there. Shot in black and white, rich inky, charcoal tones. Bunkerpop plays with light, shadow and depth. It also explores the more poetic form of storytelling. One of poignant moments with strange magic, rather than a traditional narrative.

Bunkerpop was released on 12-inch and download in February 2015, its kinetic, synthetic crunch soundtracking a part-hallucination, part-party for one in a bunker, also clocking in at just under 6 minutes and reaching BBC6Music’s ‘A’Playlist.

Julie Campbell, A.K.A LoneLady, is a critically acclaimed, solo singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer from Manchester, England.
